"The Bear's Sea Escape" by Benjamin Chaud and "Life" by Cynthia Rylant and Brendan Wenzel
Welcome to Curious G’s Book Club, where we will highlight new books every week. We will also include a fun activity or two to do with your curious little ones, based on the elements of the books. This week we are reading "The Bear's Sea Escape" by Benjamin Chaud and "Life" by Cynthia Rylant and Brendan Wenzel.
This visually stunning book takes you on a magical fantasy adventure from the wintery streets of Paris to a tropical paradise, while presenting a beautiful “Where’s Waldo” scenario each time you turn the page. Curious G loves finding Little Bear and Papa Bear in each new scene.
Read this book, then make some leis (use string and colorful construction paper, fake flowers, and / or colorful tissue). Don your handmade leis, put on some festive music, and dance your cares away while forming a conga line just like Little Bear and Papa Bear! Benjamin Chaud created a little series of books featuring Little Bear, including The Bear’s Big Surprise, which is an exciting read, especially for any kids who are expecting siblings.
This book is beautifully illustrated, and delivers a simple message about the cycle of life via nature and the animals that live among us. This week, I’ve been blinking back tears as I read this to Curious G since our beloved bull terrier passed just last week. However, I find comfort as I read it and Curious G asks questions about the different stages of life.
